Ingredients (Serves 4)
For the Patties:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
For the Gravy:
- 2 tbsp butter or oil
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
- Salt & pepper to taste

- Make the patties
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, onion, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper.
- Shape into 4 patties.
- Cook the patties
- Heat a skillet over medium heat with a little oil.
- Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove and keep warm.
- Make the gravy
- In the same skillet, melt butter. Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until lightly browned.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, if using.
- Simmer 3–5 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Combine
- Return patties to skillet, spoon gravy over them, and simmer 2–3 minutes to soak flavors.
- Serve
- Over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Enjoy immediately!
