Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy


Ingredients

For the Steaks

1 lb ground beef

⅓ cup breadcrumbs

1 egg

2 tbsp milk

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

Salt & black pepper, to taste

2 tbsp olive oil or butter

For the Onion Gravy

2 tbsp butter

1 large onion, thinly sliced

2 cups beef broth

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp ketchup (optional, for classic flavor)

1–2 tbsp cornstarch (mixed with 2 tbsp water)

Instructions

Make the Patties
In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Shape into 4–5 oval patties.

Brown the Steaks
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Sear patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.

Cook the Onions
In the same skillet, melt butter.
Add onions and cook until soft and golden, about 8–10 minutes.

Make the Gravy
Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire, and ketchup.
Bring to a simmer. Stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until thickened.

Simmer Together
Return patties to the skillet.
Cover and simmer on low for 10–15 minutes until fully cooked and tender.
