Southern Sloppy Joes

Ingredients:1 1/2 pounds ground beef1 small onion, finely diced1/2 green bell pepper, finely diced2 cloves garlic, minced1 teaspoon salt1/2 teaspoon black pepper1 teaspoon paprika1 tablespoon brown sugar1 tablespoon yellow mustard1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce3/4 cup ketchup1/4 cup tomato sauce4 hamburger buns2 tablespoons butter, softenedInstructions:In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.Add the diced onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika. Stir in the brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and tomato sauce. Mix well until everything is combined.Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and saucy.Lightly butter the inside of the hamburger buns and toast them in a skillet or oven until golden.Spoon the hot meat mixture generously onto the bottom half of each bun and top with the other half.Serve warm for a messy, sweet and savory Southern classic that’s perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings.
